Biru - Shena Malsiana featuring Vina Panduwinata (X Factor Indonesia Gala Show April 19th 2013)

One of current most popular TV Show in Indonesia is X-Factor. There were at first 13 finalists chosen divided into 4 categories: above 26, Boys, Girls, and Groups. The judges are very well known and notable professional either musicians or singers from Indonesia, they are: Bebi Romeo (Music Producer), Anggun C. Sasmi (International Singer from Indonesia), Rossa (Professional Singer), and Ahmad Dhani (Music Producer). Now is only 5 finalists left to reach the victory of this very 1st season of the show.

Above is my favorite from the very beginning of the audition, Shena Malsiana. Obviously she's more into Jazz knowing her particular voice character; however, she has proven herself that she can sing any other genres like Pop Music and Dangdut, which of course in her style. For the record, she's the only finalist who ever sang Dangdut in the show.

As you listen to the music video above, you'll irresistibly fall in love with her voice and singing (if you understand music, though). Indeed, it also baffles me how come there can be a great singer outside there but not yet is having career professionally. More surprisingly, singing fabulously is not the only skill she shows off; FYI, she's also the one who did the music arrangement for this old beautiful song. Yes, she has been arranging herself the songs everytime she performed. The judges of X-Factor Indonesia even said themselves that Shena is indeed musician, she has her own vision for music and thus, it enables her to also become music producer.

Speaking of how it has been few years Indonesian music quality keeps going down, either as in music composition or singing technique, apparently X-Factor Indonesia will really return our glory age. I don't mean to be rude nor undemocratic for music, but really, if you try to listen Indonesian music / songs from 1880's - 1990's, and if you learn and understand music, you'll certainly understand my point.

Sadly, not many people agree with my perspective above. So, I must bear it that Shena is most probably gonna lose from some other finalists whose quality is clearly below her. It's true anyhow, that Shena's way of music is too "heavy" for some people. Anthropologically saying, people's taste of music will always be equivalent to their educational level and socio-economic status. Such occasion I've even found happen to my little sister. As she's now 14, she has started to like songs I do which she didn't. She's even clueless why as I asked her.

Viva High-Quality Music!!
